The Combat Boot, NYC Fashionistas BFF

By Leila Brillson

Whether you're prim and proper or a gal with a penchant for the punky, the low-heeled lace-up leather boot is your perfect winter shoe. It's not only one of the coolest looks of the winter season, but also a timeless staple you'll be able to wear for years to come. Some call 'em combat boots, but our picks are miles away from anything clunky, rugged, or military issue. These are all of the greatest stomp-ready clompers that manage to be tough without being over-the-top. And don't worry: If you want a brighter edge, we've got that, too. Either way, you know you need a pair. You're a New Yorker after all. And what's life in the city without a pair of ass-kicking boots?

While these shoes are a little more "make love" than "make war", the unfinished edges and slouchy fit are great for traipsing around town.

Bed | Stu Hacienda boot, $248, available at Free People, 99 Spring Street (at Mercer Street), 212-226-7497.

Not only is the shape so elegant, but the beautiful rust color is totally head-turning.

Zeha Berlin boots, $634, available at Gravity Pope.
With a smart buckle and a warm leather tone, these boots are more dashing than hardcore.

Seychelles Jungle Boot, $116, available at Amazon.
A tougher alternative always looks delightfully '90s when below a flouncy skirt.

Laconia Zippers And Laces boot, $48, available at Fred Flare, 300 Kingsland Avenue, Suite F, Brooklyn (between Nassau and Norman Avenues), 877-798-2807.
A pair of tried-and-true classics that'll take an around-town beating. The wooden heel provides a well-crafted edge.

ALDO Ridlen boot, $140, available at Aldo, 700 Broadway Avenue (at East 4th Street), 212-982-0958
No one does a combat boot quite like AllSaints, and the greenish patina on this one is a refreshing variation.

AllSaints Kaskai Damisi boot, $245, available at AllSaints, 411-417 West 13th Street (between Washington Street and 9th Avenue), 646-862-3155.

Sequin Dresses To Sparkle You Holidays

There's something about December (okay, and January, and maybe even February) that makes everyone want to pump up their wardrobe's glam-quotient. This means sequined dresses and sparkly accessories abound. But remember, the tinsel belongs on the trees and nothing super-glitzy looks all that great when it's too short or skin tight (yes, even if it is December 31). With that in mind, we scoured the city for the best high-impact glittery numbers that won't leave you looking like you're about to get in a fight on some reality TV show reunion special. And as the Countess would say, "money can't buy you class," …or classy sequins for that matter. Even the most expensive sparkly frocks run the risk of looking cheap, so when you find one that works, the best thing to do is just go for it!

All Saints Paloma Cap Sleeve Dress, $495, available at All Saints, 512 Broadway (between Spring and Broome streets); 646-862-1832
Staring at Stars Embroidered Clara Dress, $99, available at Urban Outfitters, 562 Avenue of the Americas (at 14th Street); 646-638-1646.
6 Shore Road Dress, $238, available at Pixie Market, 100 Stanton St (at Ludlow Street); 212-253-0953.
House of Matching Colors Palm Tree Birthday Dress, $600, available at Opening Ceremony, 35 Howard Street (between Broadway and Crosby Street); 212-219-2688.
ASOS Revive Sequin Wrap Front Mini Dress, $272.70, available at ASOS.
Rachel Zoe Peggy Sequin Shift Dress, $346.50, available at ShopBop.
Christopher Kane Alexa Sequined Tulle Dress, $6,720, available at Net-a-Porter.
Carmen Marc Valvo Sequined Combination Dress, $565, available at Bergdorf Goodman, 754 5th Avenue (between East 58th and East 57th streets); 212-872-2700.
Gold Hawk Sequin Dress, $630, available at Farfetch.
Philosophy Di Alberta Ferretti Bead-Embellished Mesh Dress, $561, available at The Outnet.
Helmut Lang Leather Back Sequined Party Dress, $1,095, available at Neiman Marcus .

H by Halston for Bakers

So as I was patrolling Facebook, I ventured unto the page of a beautiful natural beauty that I attended High School with. All through high school she had style, but who though it would be driving me bonkers as I went through her blog www.cherrieamore.com. And since I have been under my sewing machine creating a new collection I have been so out of the fashion loop, at least if its not already in my closet, so I see that Bakers and my fave fashion line Halston have paired together to make affordable fashion babies, I LOVE IT. Here are a few you should definitely pick up.
